SOUND TRANSLATIONS
Paintings translating sounds into colour in a variety of ways – works representing daily sounds, or simplified depictions of the places the sounds came from.
The three most recent works are abstract interpretations of notes extracted from recordings of birdsong at home in May 2020, when birdsong noticeably pierced the silence of the lockdown.

CURRENT PROJECT: Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres Artist in Residence
September 2023-February 2024
Culminating in an exhibition at The Everyman, 13-25 March 2024
In conjunction with dot-art
I am delighted to have been selected to undertake this 6-month, part-time residency. During the residency I shall research, develop and complete a body of work exploring the contrasting internal and external architecture and public spaces of both the Everyman and Playhouse theatres, combined with my unique experiences of being in those spaces. I will identify architectural details/spaces/views of both the publicly accessible areas within the buildings and the distinctive external theatre buildings, then combine them with the colours I experience through my sound-colour synaesthesia whilst working in those spaces. I plan to create a series of paintings that are colourful, semi-abstracted, yet recognisable images of the interiors and exteriors of the Everyman and Playhouse.
This residency will be a standalone project from my work expressing music. It will further develop my artistic practice involving the use of sound and experiences of being in spaces, whilst producing work highlighting the unique environment and architecture of the Everyman and Playhouse.
